Support for Tradesmen
Upon Sultan Ahmet I’s accession to the throne, significant economic measures were implemented, notably the distribution of ‘ulufes’ to tradesmen by the military, made possible by the arrival of a treasury to Istanbul. Tradesmen and craftsmen were granted substantial sums of gold coins, providing a boost to the economy Round Tours Turkey.
Repairing the Kaaba
During Sultan Ahmet I’s reign, one of the most notable events was the repair of the Kaaba in Mecca. Detailed accounts in Naima’s history describe the meticulous repair process, including the plating of the Kaaba’s covers with crude silver and pure gold. This tradition of maintenance and repair of the Kaaba dates back to previous reigns, but Sultan Ahmet I expressed a special desire to have the covers adorned with gold, showcasing his commitment to this sacred task Sultan’s Decree of Honor.
Exemplary Craftsmanship
Under Sultan Ahmet I’s orders, the finest jewellers and master goldsmiths of Istanbul were summoned to prepare new covers for the Kaaba. These artisans showcased their craftsmanship to the Sultan in his Imperial tent, where he sat on a golden throne under a magnificent baldachin. The Sultan personally examined their work and bestowed robes of honor upon those present, demonstrating his appreciation for their skill and dedication.
Diplomatic Relations with Iran
During Ahmet I’s reign, diplomatic relations with Iran flourished. The backdrop of Anatolian rebellions, stemming from the prolonged engagement of the Imperial army in Europe during Sultan Mehmet III’s era, provided an opportunity for the Shah of Iran to rebel against Ottoman rule. Iranian envoys, impressed by the grandeur of Sultan Ahmet I’s procession upon his return from Davutpa§a, presented themselves before the Sultan with lavish gifts. Their astonishment at the splendor led them to express deference to the Sultan, affirming their loyalty to him and presenting their letter to the Grand Vizier as a sign of respect.
